Charice's rendition of 'Lupang Hinirang', 'perfect' - NHI

Charice was lauded by the National Historic Institute (NHI) after rendering a flawless performance of the Philippine National Anthem, "Lupang Hinirang" during the Manny Pacquiao-Shane Mosley boxing match on May 8 (Philippine Time).

In a Tweetbiz interview, NHI officer Teddy Atienza said Charice's rendition was perfect.

"Perfect po ang pagkakanta niya. Tamang-tama po yung kanyang tempo.

"Tamang-tama po ang kanyang bilis at buong-buo niya pong nakanta yung ating Pambansang Awit," Atienza said.

Charice said to have prepared for the performance and painstakingly rehearsed the original arrangement.

The Institute has been reminding Filipino singers not to take liberties in singing "Lupang Hinirang". It has heavily criticized various artists including Martin Nievera, Arnel Pineda, “La Diva,” Pop Sarah Geronimo and Lani Misalucha for their "wrong" versions.

The NHI is the main agency tasked on the implementation of the R.A. 8491 which specifies that Lupang Hinirang "shall be in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of Julian Felipe."
