Tropical Storm Ramon PAGASA Update - October 11, 2011

Tropical Storm Ramon (Bagyong Ramon) "continues to threaten Eastern Visayas and Northeastern Mindanao," the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Tuesday.

According to the 5 p.m. bulletin of the PAGASA, Tropical Storm Ramon was last spotted based on satellite and surface data at 180 km East Northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur (8.9°N, 127.9°E). Packing maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center with gustiness of up to 80 kph, Bagyong Ramon is forecast to move Northwest at 17 kph.

The state weather bureau has also hoisted Public Storm Warning Signals over the following areas:

The PAGASA also warns residents in low lying and mountainous areas under Public Storm Warning Signal against possible flashfloods, landslides and storm surges; and those living in coastal areas against big waves or storm surges generated by this tropical cyclone.

Ramon is forecast to bring an estimated rainfall amount of 10 - 30 mm per hour (moderate to heavy) within the 400 km of its diameter.

According to an ABS-CBN report, Tropical Storm Ramon is expected to make a landfall on Wednesday in Southern Leyte and will exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Saturday.

Bagyong Ramon is the 18th weather disturbance to hit the Philippines this year.
