Rey 'Boom Boom' Bautista reportedly got booed by some 3,000 crowd after he was proclaimed the winner by technical decision in his rematch fight with Heriberto Ruiz at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu on June 11.
Sunstar Daily reported that "fans booed Boom Boom loudly as soon as the decision was read and Ruiz, whose camp started celebrating when it was announced the fight would go to the decision because of the cut, was dejected."
Abac Cordero of The Philippine Star said it was probably because the crowd "wanted a clean fight or that they had expected a better performance from Bautista, who held back his punches when he should have thrown them."
The fight dubbed "The Grudge Rematch" went to scorecards after the ringside doctor called a halt to the fight at 0:56 of the seventh round after the two boxers' cuts caused by several headbutts were bleeding profusely.
Judge Bruce McTavish scored 69-65, while Muhammad Rois and Rey Danseco both gave 68-65 points, in favor of Baustita, declaring the "Pinoy Pride" the new IBF international featherweight champion.
Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista lost to Heriberto Ruiz on points during their first boxing encounter in Las Vegas on November 22, 2008.
