S.T.R - STROKE IDENTIFICATION

You can Save someone's life by sharing this.

Stroke: Remember The 1st Three Letters... S.T.R ...
My friend sent this to me ...and encouraged me to post it and spread the word. I agree. If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.
Stroke Identification:
During a party, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured everyone that she was fine and just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. (they offered to call ambulance)
They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food - while she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital - (at 6:00pm , Ingrid passed away.)
She had suffered a stroke at the party . Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today.
Some don't die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read
this...

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke...totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions :
S * Ask the individual to SMILE ..
T * = TALK. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (eg 'It is sunny out today').
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS .
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call the ambulance and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

Experiment investigates how classical physics may emerge from quantum physics.

In order to better understand how the laws governing the quantum and classical regimes are related to one another, physicists have performed an experiment allowing them to observe a quantum-
to-classical transition in a simple closed quantum system. The results suggest that classical behavior may be an innate property of certain isolated quantum systems such as the one studied here, and can emerge from quantum physics under certain conditions.

The physicists, Bryce Gadway, et al., led by Professor Dominik Schneble at Stony Brook University in New York, have published their paper on the quantum-to-classical transition experiment in a recent issue of Physical Review Letters. Gadway is currently at the University of Colorado in Boulder.

"Our results suggest that classical physics may emerge in a very natural way in large quantum systems — in this case, 'large' meaning just two coupled subsystems — without the invocation of an external 'environment' responsible for decoherence," Gadway told Phys.org. "These results are certainly suggestive that classical behavior — specifically diffusive random-walk-like transport at the expected classical rate — is an innate property of this simple, quantum chaotic system."

Edward – a new, rather unusual eco-friendly vehicle

This new eco-friendly vehicle is called Electric Diwheel With Active Rotation Damping or simply
Edward , and it is using the same idea as a monowheel, but unlike the monowheel, Edward has two wheels that allows the driver to keep balance at all times. In addition, Edward is capable of gerbiling effect so the driver can easily rock back and forth during hard braking or fast acceleration. Of course, the research team behind Edward has been working hard in order to minimize this by using built-in dynamic lateral stability and slosh control. Thanks to these features you can even drive Edward upside down, but you can also turn these features off if you don’t fancy that.

Researchers turn cement into metal.

In a move that would make the Alchemists of King Arthur's time green with envy, scientists have unraveled the formula for turning liquid cement into liquid metal. This makes cement a semi-conductor and opens up its use in the profitable consumer electronics marketplace for thin films, protective coatings, and computer chips.

"This new material has lots of applications including as thin-film resistors used in liquid-crystal displays, basically the flat panel computer monitor that you are probably reading this from at the moment," said Chris Benmore, a physicist from the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory who worked with a team of scientists from Japan, Finland, and Germany to take the "magic" out of the cement-to-metal transformation. Benmore and Shinji Kohara from Japan Synchrotron Radiation Research Institute/SPring-8 led the research effort.

The better to see you with: Scientists build record-setting metamaterial flat lens.

For the first time, scientists working at the National Institute of Standards and Technology have demonstrated a new type of lens that bends and focuses ultraviolet (UV) light in such an unusual way that it can create ghostly, 3D images of objects that float in free space. The easy-to-build lens could lead to improved photolithography, nanoscale manipulation and manufacturing, and even high-resolution three-dimensional imaging, as well as a number of as-yet-unimagined applications in a diverse range of fields.

An article published in the journal Nature explains that the new lens is formed from a flat slab of metamaterial with special characteristics that cause light to flow backward—a counterintuitive situation in which waves and energy travel in opposite directions, creating a negative refractive index.

The negative refractive index of metamaterials causes light entering or exiting the material to bend in a direction opposite what would occur in almost all other materials. For instance, if we looked at our straw placed in a glass filled with a negative-index material, the immersed portion would appear to bend backward, completely unlike the way we're used to light behaving.

SHOULD WE CONSIDER THE ETHICS OF BUILDING KILLER ROBOTS?

We are designing bionic limbs that could be
remotely controlled and we have the potential to
engineer autonomous killer drones that could be
hacked and hijacked. As Christians and scientists
we should weigh in on how this technology should
develop.

AMAZING FIREFLIES

Lampyridae are winged beetles noted for their use
of bioluminescence to attract mates or prey. This
chemically produced light may be yellow, green, or
pale-red, with wavelengths from 510 to 670
nanometers. Truly one of God’s most magical
creations.

Super Snake

The Green Anaconda is the largest snake in the world, growing to 29 feet long and weighing up to 550 pounds. Freaked out yet? Their super duper skills are being able to squeeze the life out of their food with muscular long bodies AND- swallow large prey whole like wild pigs, deer, birds and turtles.
Their jaws have very stretchy ligaments. I'll say! Once fed, they can just chill out for a few months and digest. Baby anacondas break out of the egg with instant abilities to swim and hunt. So they are basically perfect killing machines? Let's add these guys high on the list of species to avoid when trekking through South America. Unless of course we're traveling with Ice Cube.

If two different species of animal can help each other why not humans??

Top 10 Salman Khan Movies

Our very own Salman ‘Sallu’ Khan has grown in front of our eyes. From the romancing womanizer, to the tough mobster, to the comedic cop, we have seen his many faces. This is why he has become one of India’s favorite actors. We love many of his movies, but here are the top 10 movies of Salman Khan.

1. Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989)

This is the movie that introduced Salman to the world. He was a young hopeless romantic chasing after his true love. It became the blockbuster hit of the year and the second best hit of the decade.

2. Hum Aapke Hain Koun…! (1994)

Five years later, we saw Salman as another romantic lead, but a more fun, immature kind. Paired with roller-skating Madhuri Dixit in this super hit, Hum Aapke Hain Koun is still known today as one of the best Bollywood movies ever. Who could forget such a relatable and easy-flowing movie?

3. Judwaa (1997)

In Judwaa, Salman played opposite Rambha and Karisma Kapoor. We saw two sides to him in this movie, literally, a serious law-abiding citizen and a naughty, playful character. The performer was beginning to show his acting prowess.

4. Pyaar Kiya to Darna Kya (1998)

Hello, shirtless Salman! His female fan-base probably more than doubled after his rippling muscles made an intro in the movie’s famous song, Oo Jaane Jaana. That is probably the most memorable moment of the movie.

5. Biwi No. 1 (1999)

From someone who chases after true love, to a married man cheating on his wife, here we saw Salman start to shed his lover boy image. India liked what they saw, because this movie became the biggest hit of the year.

6. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999)

1999 was Salman’s year to show the world what he was made of. He proved he was more than just one role in this romantic tragedy opposite Aishwarya Rai and Ajay Devgan.

7. Tere Naam (2003)

Salman continued to surprise us with his performance in Tere Naam. His portrayal of a man who suffered from a serious head injury that left him practically psychotic was truly amazing. It was a role we never saw Salman play before.

8. Wanted (2009)

Wanted single-handedly revived Salman’s fading career. His tough guy image officially transformed him from Salman to Sallu. And his line was unforgettable.

9. Dabangg (2010)

From undercover officer, to semi-dirty cop who gets the job done, the security guard look obviously suited Salman. It earned 250 crores worldwide making it the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2010.

10. Bodyguard (2011)

Like we said, security detail suits our Sallu. The highly anticipated movie broke opening day records. It also broke single day grossing records. This movie is proof that Salman Khan is here to stay.

Salman Khan fever began one decade ago upon his entry into Bollywood and continues to live on. His movies have proven he is an actor who can portray many characters and that is why we love him.
